Caring for Your New All-on-Four Implants
All on Four dental implants are one of the tooth replacement treatments available at PMD Dental Care in Port Melbourne. This treatment replaces all of your upper or lower missing teeth with four dental implants that are inserted within the bone. A bridge of artificial teeth is attached to them, across the entire arch.
But undergoing this process doesn’t mean that you can do away with your previous oral hygiene routine. To ensure that your implants last a lifetime, you’ll have to be dedicated to cleaning them properly. Though there are no teeth to decay, your dental implants can develop periodontal (gum) disease if uncared for.
Food debris can collect around your implants and cause the gum tissue to become inflamed. Bacteria can seep down below the gum, into the bone. The infection that it causes, eats away at the bone, and deteriorates it. Since having an adequate amount of bone is imperative for the livelihood of your implants, you’ll need to make sure you keep this from happening – because as the bone level lowers, it won’t be able to support the implants as well; eventually they can become loose and could even fall out.
Avoid Gum Disease with A Proper Cleaning Routine
- Brushing You’ll want to brush at least twice a day. Use a soft bristled or electric toothbrush. Make sure you brush all surfaces of all the teeth in a gentle, circular motion. Also, brush along the gum line – this is very important!
- Flossing Investing in a water or air flosser will help clean food particles that can lead to serious problems. Use it every day.
- Rinsing Rinsing your mouth with a mouthwash will also help kill germs that you may have missed during brushing and flossing.
